A sprinkle of love and a dash of magic

To make the best saltless sugar cookies that rock, you will need to gather these ingredients:

  • 1 cup granulated sugar
  • 1 tsp vanilla extract
  • 1 egg
  • 4 cups all-purpose flour
  • 2 tsp baking powder
  • 1/2 tsp baking soda
  • 1/2 tsp salt
  • 1/2 tsp cinnamon (optional)
  • 1/4 tsp nutmeg (optional)

All of these ingredients can easily be found at your local grocery store. Additionally, feel free to add cinnamon or nutmeg for an extra burst of flavor, but they are entirely optional.

The Recipe How-To

Mix and Chill the Dough

To start, preheat your oven to 375°F. In a large mixing bowl, cream 2 cups of softened unsalted butter and 1 cup of granulated sugar together until light and fluffy with an electric mixer. Beat in 2 teaspoons of vanilla extract, and if you like, a pinch of cinnamon and nutmeg for flavor depth. In a separate bowl whisk together 4 cups of all-purpose flour, 2 teaspoons of baking powder and ½ teaspoon of salt. Add dry ingredients into the wet ingredients gradually taking care not to overmix. Divide the cookie dough into two large balls and wrap them individually in plastic wrap before chilling for about 1 hour.

Shape and Bake the Cookies

Once chilled, remove dough from the refrigerator, then using a floured rolling pin or hands, roll out the dough to about 1/2-inch thickness. Cut out desired shapes using cookie cutters in different sizes to make them visually interesting. Place cookies on a parchment-lined baking sheet leaving 1-2 inches between each cookie. With the scraps of dough that remain our experts suggest re-rolling it once for optimal results as multiple rerolls might make your cookies dry out or tough. Bake the cookies for 10 – 12 minutes or until they are set but not browned.

Cool and Decorate

After baking, let cookies cool completely on a wire rack or an open countertop because If you stack hot cookies on top of one another, they will get soggy. Once cooled these cookies are magical because they have an uber soft texture that is not too delicate when decorating time rolls around. You can decorate these sugar cookies to match any theme or season with royal icing, ganache or any other frosting you prefer along with sprinkles and candies as per your personal preference

Baking can be tricky at times, especially when you’re trying out a recipe for the first time. Here are some tips and tricks to ensure that you get the perfect saltless sugar cookies every time!

1. Use unsalted butter

Using unsalted butter in the recipe not only adds richness but also allows us to control the amount of salt added to the cookie. The use of saltless butter guarantees that you won’t accidentally end up adding too much salt to your recipe.

2. Soften the butter at room temperature

Make sure that your butter is softened before starting with the recipe. This will ensure that your cookies come out perfectly soft and chewy. If your butter is too cold or too melted, it can change the texture of your cookies.

3. Measure ingredients accurately

One of the key factors in getting perfect results with any recipe is measuring ingredients accurately. Whether it’s flour, sugar, or baking powder, make sure you measure them properly to achieve consistent results.

4. Use fresh ingredients

Using fresh ingredients is always best for better flavor and optimal results when baking. Stale or old ingredients can severely impact the final outcome of your cookies.

5. Chill the dough before baking

Chilling the dough helps to solidify the fat in the cookie dough and prevent it from spreading too much when baked. It also enables flavors to develop and intensify, producing a more complex taste.

6. Use parchment paper or silicone mats

Secure parchment papers or silicone mats on your baking tray when preparing to bake your cookies. Using these non-stick options ensures that your cookies will come off easily and prevent undesired sticking with its surface.
