Serving and Pairing

When it comes to serving this dish, I usually recommend presenting it family-style in a large bowl, garnished with additional breadcrumbs and bacon. This approach speaks to the communal nature of the meal, encouraging diners to help themselves and pass the dish around.

While Brussels sprouts with breadcrumbs are a delicious standalone side dish, I also enjoy serving them with roasted or grilled meats like chicken or pork chops. They also pair particularly well with white wine varieties like Sauvignon Blanc and Pinot Grigio.

Alternatively, if you are looking for something more hearty and filling, try serving this dish alongside mashed potatoes or brown rice. The combination of textures and flavors creates a delightful contrast that is sure to please your palate.

When considering what to pair this dish with, it’s important to consider balance. Because Brussels sprouts can be quite savory and filling, I usually find that lighter mains complement them best.

All in all, feel free to experiment and pair these Brussels sprouts with whatever dish you think would make for a satisfying and scrumptious meal. The possibilities are endless!

Make-Ahead, Storing and Reheating

When it comes to enjoying these Brussels sprouts with bread crumbs, there are a few things to keep in mind. First, if you want to save time, you can easily make the dish ahead of time and store it in the fridge for up to 2 days.

To do this, simply cook the Brussels sprouts according to the recipe instructions until they are just tender. Then, transfer them to an airtight container and refrigerate until you’re ready to serve.

When you’re ready to reheat the dish, there are a couple of different options. One is to place the cold Brussels sprouts on a baking sheet and roast them in the oven at 400 degrees F for about 10 minutes, or until they are heated through and crispy again.

Another option is to reheat the Brussels sprouts in a skillet over medium heat. Simply add a bit of oil or butter to the pan and stir-fry the sprouts for 5-7 minutes, or until they are heated through and lightly browned.

If you have any leftovers after reheating the dish, you can store them in an airtight container in the fridge for up to 3 days. Just keep in mind that the texture may not be quite as crispy or crunchy after being reheated again.

Overall, this dish is a great option for meal-prepping or entertaining since it can be made ahead of time and reheated easily. Plus, it’s a delicious way to enjoy roasted Brussels sprouts with an added crunch from bread crumbs.

Tips for Perfect Results

To achieve the best results with this Brussels Sprouts with Bread Crumbs recipe, I have outlined a few tips and tricks you can employ in your baking. Here are some of the ways to guarantee a flawless meal whenever you decide to cook this recipe:

1. Properly clean the sprouts.

Before preparing any vegetable for cooking, it is important to give it a good rinse under cold water. For Brussels sprouts, try using a colander to ensure that each one is well rinsed and debris-free.

2. Trim and halve sprouts evenly.

For even cooking, it’s essential to trim off any excess leaves from the brussels sprouts and slice them in half lengthwise. This will create an equal surface area, ensuring each sprout cooks at the same rate.

3. Set the oven temperature to 400 degrees Fahrenheit.

Preheat your oven for about 15 minutes before putting your prepared Brussels sprouts in. Setting your oven to this temperature will ensure that they roast appropriately without burning or becoming too soft.

4. Be careful not to overcook the sprouts.

Overcooking Brussels sprouts will result in them being soggy and lose their vibrant color, flavor, and texture. Once you remove them from the oven, they should be crispy on the outside but still tender on the inside.

5. Experiment with different seasonings.

While this recipe calls for bread crumbs, bacon, garlic parmesan, and other ingredients, feel free to experiment with various seasonings such as red pepper flakes or fresh lemon juice for an extra pop of flavor.

By following these simple steps, you will be able to create a delicious dish that everyone will love!

To make sure you get the most out of this recipe, here are some frequently asked questions along with their answers that will help you better understand the process and ingredients involved in making your own Brussels Sprouts with Bread Crumbs recipe. Keep reading to have your doubts cleared, and satisfy your curiosity.

How do you make Brussel sprouts taste better?

When cooking Brussels sprouts, it’s essential to make a cross-shaped incision at the bottom of each one. This will allow for even cooking, with the tougher stem cooking at the same pace as the tender leaves. To give your roasted Brussels sprouts an added burst of flavor, consider sprinkling some red pepper flakes or lemon zest on top before popping them in the oven. And for a final touch, add a squeeze of freshly-squeezed lemon juice just before serving. Trust me, your taste buds will thank you!

Why won’t my Brussel sprouts get crispy?

To achieve perfectly crispy roasted Brussels sprouts, it’s important to turn up the heat. Roasting them at a low temperature won’t give them that desired golden-brown crispness, so make sure to preheat your oven to a high temperature before popping in your baking sheet. Keep this in mind: Roast Brussels sprouts at no less than 400°F.

Do you need to soak Brussel sprouts before cooking?

If you’re planning on roasting brussels sprouts, don’t worry about soaking them beforehand. To get them ready, start by washing them and peeling off the outer leaves that may be dirty. Trim the bottoms as well and toss those discarded bits aside. Then, cut each brussels sprout in half and arrange them on a baking sheet. That’s all you need to do!

Brussels Sprouts With Bread Crumbs

Brussels Sprouts With Bread Crumbs Recipe

The only way I will eat Brussels Sprouts! Be carefull not to cook too long, or bad lunch room memories may start to rear thier ugly heads. For this reason, I don't care for this recipe after it has been reheated, so plan to serve this immediately. It goes together quickly, so if you are serving with a roast, you can start this while the meat is resting. Dried fresh bread crumbs sounds like a contradiction, but if you use the pre-packaged stuff you will be disappointed. I just whiz a piece or two of whole wheat bread and give it a few minutes in a hot oven on a cookie sheet, or if the oven is occupied, dry toast them in a skillet. This recipe is adapted from one in Savuer Magazine. I got the bread crumb idea from Mark Bitman's "How to Cook Everything" - LOVE that book!
